Week 04-25 - Curiosities

Winter sunsets are the best.

Greetings from the Mesa

Well here we are in a new dystopian reality. Buckle up. In other news we have been waiting to get a wood stove insert installed in the fireplace. That happened. It's wonderfully cozy and toasty. It's been a slow January so far, i'll take it, but snow is finally on the horizon (maybe). We've been watching a parade of snow plows pick up gravel for the impending storm. Meanwhile some massive house rearranging is happening. The sunsets have been spectacular - the super saturated winter colors are my favorite. Happy Lunar New Year!

Curiosities of the Week

  1. Project 2025 is here. How likely is it to succeed? (Under the Desk News)
  2. Power also comes from the bottom up (Your Local Epidemiologist). If you care at all about public health you should follow YLE.
  3. RFK Jr. is going through his senate confirmation hearings (NYT), I can't think of anyone less appropriate for the job. What an undervaccinated America would look like (The Atlantic)
  4. Bird Flu (USA Today). Pay attention with Bird Flu Watcher. Will bird flu spark a human pandemic? Scientists say the risk is rising (Nature)
  5. Bluesky vs. Mastodon (It's Foss) Mastodon for me.

Consuming

Currently Reading: Finished Autumn Bones by Jacqueline Carey which was a total fluff read. Started Lamb by Christopher Moore and still reading Babel by R. F. Kuang.

TV/Movies: Finished Silo S1, started S2 - it's a fairly faithful adaptation so far. Will be curious to see how they adapt book 2. Watched two Chinese cooking shows The Hot Life - about hot pots, and My Wiggly Friend - about rice noodles. Both were lovely and mildly sappy trips around the country that I enjoyed thoroughly. Looking forward to starting Severance S2 finally.

Music: Ministry's new album Hopiumforthemasses goes hard. VERY HARD.

Thinking about:

How we can steal the headlines with do-gooding instead of all the BS

Thanks for reading, see you next week!
