Week 05-25 - Curiosities

Those winter sunset colors...

Greetings from the Mesa

Wow, America is devolving more rapidly than I ever even expected. Checks and balances have gone the way of the Dodo. Wheee! Meanwhile we are carrying on. Winter is gone again, and we are delighting in some 60+ degree weather. Bring out the shorts!

Curiosities of the Week

  1. Wired is doing excellent work rooting out the minions of F'Elon. 25 year old has access to the Federal Payment System. The young inexperienced gaslit minions of F'Elon. (Wired) The Dump and F'Elon are destroying the basics of a health democrazy (The Atlantic).
  2. Meanwhile Google deletes policy against using AI for weapons or surveillance (Mashable). Gross. Is it possible to move entirely away from the big tech bros systems?
  3. This could be a very interesting read, but would she have approved of their publication? 25 Years Ago, Joan Didion Kept a Diary. It’s About to Become Public. (NYT) I'm working through my 120th personal journal, I'm not sure I would ever want any of them published.
  4. In local news, the rejected TREV project is now going to be the "Pangea Community" (maybe) As one commenter points out, in-town infill might be a better option.
  5. Meanwhile the Mauna Loa CO2 observatory i.e. the NOAA ESRL Global Monitoring Laboratory website appears to have been taken down. Ridiculous. Trying to hide healthcare and environmental information doesn't make the problems go away...

Consuming

Currently Reading: Lady of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley and Babel by R.F. Kuang.

TV/Movies: Making my way slowly through Silo S2 and Severance S2. Finished The Night Agent S2, thought the storyline was good, but there was some really bad acting. Also watched Jjajangmyeon Rhapsody which turned out to be a really interesting dive into Chinese immigrant influence on favored Korean noodle dishes.

Music: Thrilled for Tank and the Bangas winning their first Grammy! (Listen here)

Thinking about:

Fascism and enshittification

Thanks for reading, see you next week!
